A Stainless Kitchen

I love cooking. Whether it be a well thought out menu or an impromptu snack, I always enjoy preparing a fabulous Southern bounty. Last week my pantry was getting low on the necessary supplies. I had told Dan it was getting about time to make a trip to the store. Well, about an hour later I started whipping up my signature spinach artichoke dip that is listed under the recipes section on this website. Dan asked, “how did I have all the necessary ingredients?” Simple, any good Southern cook always has the fixings to take to sick friends, funerals, and bring-a-dishes at church events. You just never get to low on the basics.

Dan indicated that he has never eaten a meal that I have fixed that he didn’t enjoy. See my husband is a foodie too, just the eating kind! We live in a beautiful old home that I love, although my kitchen is one room I haven’t totally updated yet. Yes, it’s been updated since this picture, although it’s not magazine worthy yet as my dining room is always featured. Dan mentioned that his Mother and I are his favorite cooks; neither of us have overly fancy kitchens. I have really given this topic some thought over the past few days. My conclusion is that stainless appliance and fancy counter tops do not make for great occurrences in the kitchen, but old fashioned care and love put into each dish. So, I’ll continue to work on other rooms in my home and continue to prepare my husband’s favorite dishes.

Our 40th Birthday Year

>Wow! We are already halfway through our 40th Birthday year. Not my Birthday, but Tennessee Pewter’s birthday! What a ride it has been. Each day brings new excitement and custom jobs. We just love making folks glad they found us. We know you have choices as to where to purchase your family’s heirlooms and we greatly appreciate you choosing us. We put great craftsmanship and love into each Tennessee Pewter piece. I look forward to making folks smile for another 40 years!

A Very Special Day

Today I am celebrating my 5 year wedding anniversary!

My favorite anniversary gift I have made is a chamber that I engraved on the bottom, “you are the light of my life,” with the customers wedding date. I am honored each day to make pieces to celebrate special events in my customers lives. When you have a special occasion and want to give him/her something they will treasure forever give us a call. I know that my chamber candle next to my bed also glows just like the love in my life.

Summer in the South

Summer in the South is an unforgettable experience that revisits us each year in new chapters. As our surroundings change and our age, so do our experiences. As I dined with a girlfriend this week at a popular Memphis eatery I sat in the same booth that had hosted my grandparents and myself so many times. I had just dined in that booth with my grandfather last summer before his health declined. While I was enjoying a fantastic meal with a great friend I was being flooded with memories that came to life clear as day. I had shared so many desserts in that booth as my grandmother fought lung cancer or the day my grandfather had eye surgery he felt well enough for a quick lunch in our special booth. I make beautiful pieces of pewter that will live on for many summer chapters. It’s amazing how a goblet, chair, or even flower can flood our hearts with memories of those we have loved so much and left huge imprints on our life. As we make each piece of Tennessee Pewter we put skill and love into our pieces. As I engrave pieces I often think of future generations that will be treasuring our pieces. As we enjoy the fruits of summer here in the American South I urge you to find your memories and revisit wonderful times past and present with special family or friends. It’s amazing how memories give objects a soul.

The Wedding Day

The big day has arrived! Today is the wedding day of Wellons Woods, one of our brides here at Tennessee Pewter. This is a special bride that I am quite good friends with here in West Tennessee. Today she will be married at Joyners Campground in Fayette County, TN with the reception following at her parent’s home. Last night as we put lights in the trees I was taken back to my wedding week and what wonderful memories were created when everyone jumped in and helped in preparation of the big day. Like this bride, my reception was at my parents home. In the South, there is just no other event that compares to the small town wedding. Everyone in town is excited for the happy couple and the reception is always a wonderful reason to get together for an evening of good times and great food. I wish Wellons and Scott all the love there is in this crazy world and sincerely hope all their hopes and dreams come true as my dreams are becoming my reality. These two are wonderful souls! Cheers to you both on this special day!

As I write to you, I am sitting on one of my favorite pieces of furniture at my home and that’s my glider. Yes, a very old glider with big soft cushions and wonderful pillows for taking afternoon naps on our hot days here in the South. I am a passionate reader and some days I can get so caught up in a book and just be carried away to another place. Drinking out of my pewter cups on these hot days is simply wonderful. Pewter keeps beverages very cold. Ice tea with a hint of mint from my yard and a slice of lemon is just divine. My Jefferson cups are perfect for evenings on the porch with my favorite muscadine wine. I am an avid gardener which provides the needed accessories when entertaining. My life is full of family and friends, combine the two, and things just couldn’t get better! I live in small town America which provides so much inspiration for my work. It’s the special occasions in life that call for unforgettable memories to be made. We have the most wonderful times just visiting by each others pools or sitting on our front porches sharing our days happenings.
